On the basis of the tradition of professional theatre for children and youth, “Stalo Teatras” creates new and original theatre shows for children and youth. The Theatre seeks to rise public awareness about trends and ways of contemporary theatre for children and youth and aspire to convey creatively cultural values of literature and performing arts. “Stalo Teatras” participates in the formation of cultural image of national theatre for children and youth and presents abroad cultural achievements in the field of  theatre for children and youth.

It’s aim is to promote and implement new methods and ways of art education, to promote search for new ways of expression in the field of theatre for children and youth; “Stalo Teatras” organizes theatre workshops and educational programs for children and youth in the regions of the country and tries to educate and develop public need within the society for professional theatre for children and youth.

“Stalo Teatras” uses only live music in its shows – a subtle way of giving sound to the action. Sometimes music even becomes a separate character and that strengthens connection with the audience and expands means of artistic expression. “Stalo Teatras” shows are distinguished by their originality, by diversity of solutions, and each time by their live-interactive performance.

The activities of “Stalo Teatras” in 2014

Premieres:

On 8 March, in the Arts Printing House in Vilnius, a premiere of on-part act music and Ebru painting play – experience “Pievos” – took place. Actress and artist Saulė Degutytė, composer, performer and music therapist Snieguolė Dikčiūtė, and body movement therapy specialist and Chinese exercising Thai Chi trainer Raima Drąsutytė tell their life stories and share their emotional experiences. Sound director – Valdas Narkevičius, light artist – Tadas Juozapaitis.

On 26 October, in the Arts Printing House in Vilnius, a premiere of “The Big Piper” (Lith. “Didysis Dūdininkas”, based on the dreams of Gasparas Aleksa, Roaldas Dalys and other children) took place. The play directed by Saulė Degutytė invites children to the mysterious world of dreams. Actors – Edita Zizaitė and Saulius Čėpla, artists – Saulė Degutytė and Ligita Skukauskaitė, composer – Snieguolė Dikčiūtė. Gruodžio 21 d. 12 val. PREMJERA sapnų spektaklis „Didysis Dūdininkas“

On 20 December, in the Arts Printing House in Vilnius, a premiere of the mono play “The Secret Garden” (Lith. “Stebuklingas sodas”, based on “The Legend of the Christmas Rose” by Selma Lagerlöf) took place. The director and author of the idea – Saulė Degutytė, artists – Saulė Degutytė and Ligita Skukauskaitė, composer – Snieguolė Dikčiūtė, sound director – Valdas Narkevičius, light artist – Tadas Juozapaitis. Vocal quartet – Dalia Krapavickaitė (soprano), Juta Pranulyė (Karolina Macytė, alto), Vaidas Bartušas (tenor), Imantas Jonas Marijus Šimkus (Rokas Podelis, base) – perform a motet “O Magnum Mysterium” by Tomás Luis de Victoria (1540?–1613). The play employs action painting, the scenography includes wall painting fragments by Giotto di Bondone (1266/7–1337) and other painters of the early Renaissance.

Awards:

On 27 March, in Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre, the best theatre artists of the country were given awards and mementos for the works carried out on the stages of Lithuanian theatres in 2013. The theatre artists were awarded in fourteen categories. In the category of dolls and objects, director and artist Saulė Degutytė was awarded (“The Feast of Dialects” – “About the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Falling Sky”).

International theatre festivals, outings, other projects:

During the 4th International Festival for Children and Youth KITOKS’14 (13-20 January, Vilnius, the Arts Printing House) we performed the play “The Feast of Dialects” (“About the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Falling Sky”).

On 26 April, in Vilnius, the event “Books of Sounds” (Lith. “Garsų knygos”) of the festival “Young Music” (Lith. “Jauna muzika”) will take place. “Stalo teatras” created the action music and Ebru painting play – experience “Pievos”.ybos spektaklį – patyrimą „Pievos“. Dalyvauja: S. Dikčiūtė (muzika), S. Degutytė (ebru tapyba), Raima Drąsutytė (judesys). Garso dizainas – Valdas Narkevičius, šviesų dailininkas – Tadas Juozapaitis.

On 23-31 May, in Warsaw, the 18th congress and festival of global organisation of theatres for children and youth ASSITEJ took place where the head of “Stalo teatras” Saulė Degutytė was one of the participants.

On 30-31 May, in Vilnius, in the Arts Printing House, the 4th festival of theatres which is also a competition to win a “Begasas” prize. The non-competition part of the festival included a performance of an extract from an inter-opera “Love without Death in the Sand” (Lith. “Meilė be mirties smėlynuose”) by Snieguolė Dikčiūtė (director and artist – Saulė Degutytė, writers – Violeta Šoblinskaitė and Gasparas Aleksa, arrangements by – Valdas Narkevičius); this was a shared project between The Lithuanian Association of People with Disabilities and “Stalo teatras” whose participants were professional artists and creators with reduced mobility. One of the participants was the composer, music therapist and multi-instrumentalist Tomas Dobrovolskis (1966-2015).

On 14-15 April, we performed a play “Eglė the Queen of Serpents” (Lith. Eglė žalčių karalienė”) for the Lithuanian children of Switzerland. On 14 June, actress Saulė Degutytė and composer and performer Snieguolė Dikčiūtė organised the performance in Zurich, in the Lituanistic kindergarten “Pagrandukas”  of the Mary of Lourdes Church, and on 15 June – in Geneva, in the Lituanistic Sunday kindergarten-school “Ratas”.

On 29 June – 5 July, a cinema camp for the youth “7 Days and Nights with Cinema 2014” (Lith. “7 dienos ir naktys su kinu 2014”) in Trakai District as organised.

 

On 13 August, actors Saulė Degutytė, Edita Zizaitė, Saulius Čėpla and Loreta Raškevičiūtė performed a play “The Feast of Dialects” (“About the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Falling Sky”) in the “Buratinas” theatre during the Gothenburg cultural week.

On 15 September, we performed a family play directed by Saulė Degutytė “The Feast of Dialects” (“About the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Falling Sky”) in the 3rd Lietuviškos dramaturgijos festivalis” (En. Festival of Lithuanian Dramaturgy”) organised by Kelmė Small Theatre.

On 5-26 October, in Vilnius, in the Arts Printing House, a month of plays of the “Stalo teatras” was organised. 8 performances were carried out during the retrospective, i.e. a play that marks the beginning of this theatre “Eglė the Queen of Serpents” (Lith. “Eglė žalčių karalienė”), a play of smells “The Mother of Winds” (Lith. Vėjų Motė”), a performance “The Feast of Dialects” (“About the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Falling Sky”) awarded with a Golden State Cross award this year, a play for children “A Tale about Kings” (Lith. “Pasaka apie Karalius”), a play-vision “Journey of a Lamb” (Lith. “Avinėlio kelionė”), a music ethnological act “A Stork’s Gift” (Lith. “Gandro dovana”; the creative group of the play was awarded a Golden State Cross in 2010), a musical play “A Mouse in the Guitar” (Lith. “Peliukas gitaroje”), and a play-improvisation “Birthday” (Lith. “Gimimo diena”).

The 4th international theatre festival for children and youth “Jėga!/Cool!” (1-5 December, Kaunas). On 4 December, we performed “The Feast of Dialects” (“About the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Falling Sky”, awarded a Golden Stage Cross in 2014) in the Small Hall of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre.

On 13 December, we performed a play-dream “My Town” (Lith. “Mano miestas; directors – Saulė Degutytė and Jokūbas Vilius Tūras) in the closing celebration of the Lithuanian cultural capital events in Panevežys.

Object Theatre Stalo Teatras Activity in the year 2013

On December 23, Stalo Teatras showed performance “The Feast of Dialects” (“Tales about the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Collapsing Sky”) for Lithuanian children living in Belarus at the the White Hall in the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuanian.

On December 7, Stalo Teatras performance “Eglė - Queen of Grass Snakes” was played for children of Lithuanian community in Prague (Czech Republic), and on 8 December in Vienna (Austria).

On September 27-29, Stalo Teatras showed a premiere of “The Feast of Dialects” (“Tales about the Goat, the King, Bezdukas and the Collapsing Sky”) at the “Lithuanian Culture Days” event in Kaliningrad region. Creator, director and set designer - Saulė Degutytė, artist - Ligita Skukauskaitė, composer – Snieguolė Dikčiūtė sound director - Valdas Narkevičius, lighting designer - Tadas Juozapaitis. The tales translated into Dzukian and Samogitian dialects by Violeta Šoblinskaitė-Aleksa. In this performance were used carvings made by folk artist Vladas Šiekštelė (1892-1978). The performance was sponsored by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. Lithuanian premiere of “Table of Dialects table” took place at Arts Printing House on 13 of October.

On June 13-16, Penza district theatre “Doll's House” held the 4th  International Puppet Theater festival of chamber performances in “Snail” in which Stalo Teatras presented their performance “Eglė - Queen of grass-snakes” (director, set designer and actress – Saulė Degutytė, composer and performer - Snieguolė Dikčiūtė).

On May 30-31 at Arts Printing House in Vilnius was held 3rd Theater Festival - contest of people with disabilities, “Begasas”. Stalo Teatras and Vilnius Day Center of Disabled Persons theatre troupe showed a premiere of an audiovisual performance “Ark of Noah” (director and designer – Saulė Degutytė, composer - Snieguolė Dikčiūtė) and won the main award at the Festival.
